Endless Sky is better than EV Nova in almost every way except for nostalgia. There are also a ton of mods for it.Įven in the modern age with games like Rebel Galaxy or Starpoint Gemini, I keep going back to this more than the others. Backwards compatibility can be an issue because of the game's age but if you can make it work I highly recommend it. It seems like every time I play I discover sidequests and things I haven't ever seen before. The major storylines also branch and weave into the other major storylines occasionally, so if you find yourself playing one faction and want to ditch them for another, if you time it right you can. Having 6 Rebel Destroyers as escorts, the F key turning into 'press for missile rain.' That game opened us up to a whole universe of what video games could be. In other words, it’s probably one of the first ‘open world’ games you’ll find. Feuding couriers that eventually start killing each other. EV: Nova is a 2D sci fi trader and combat storyline. It was released all the way back in ’02, but the gameplay is still smooth and enjoyable, even if it is a little simplistic. There are six major storylines and several minor storylines, so there's a lot of replay value. Escape Velocity: Nova is one of those games. You can be a trader, a pirate, or you can join a faction. Pollution from extreme overpopulation had already resulted in biosphere destruction on all six Auroran capitals. It has a top-down view, fairly simple controls, and you can pretty much do whatever you want. In Nova proper, the Federation and Vell-os storylines result in four of the six Auroran capitals being depopulated at the hands of the Federation Navy and the Bureau -subverted House Moash. ![]() This game is getting on in years (first released in 2002) and had primitive graphics even for its time, but it's such an incredible game.
